From the turquoise waters of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake to the rugged peaks of Banff and Jasper National Parks, every turn offers a new photographic opportunity. During a week-long road trip through Alberta in August 2025, I explored mountain valleys, glaciers, wildlife habitats, badlands and historic sites, documenting the incredible diversity that makes Alberta one of the most photogenic provinces in Canada.

Drumheller and the Alberta Badlands

The journey began in the Alberta Badlands, where dramatic landscapes carved by millions of years of erosion create one of Canada’s most unique environments. Deep coulees, colourful rock formations and vast open skies make Drumheller a dream destination for photographers and nature lovers alike.

The Hoodoos of Drumheller

Among the region’s most iconic landmarks are the Hoodoos, towering sandstone pillars that have become synonymous with the Alberta Badlands. These natural formations provide a fascinating glimpse into the geological forces that shaped the region and remain one of Alberta’s most photographed attractions.

Dorothy, Alberta

Located east of Drumheller, Dorothy is one of Alberta’s best-known ghost towns. Once a thriving prairie community, the settlement has largely disappeared, leaving behind a collection of historic buildings that stand as reminders of life on the Canadian Prairies during the early twentieth century.

Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary

Situated in the foothills west of Calgary, the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary provides a unique opportunity to learn about and photograph wolfdogs in a safe and educational setting. Wildlife Along the Bow Valley Parkway

The Bow Valley Parkway is one of the most scenic drives in the Canadian Rockies and one of the best places to encounter wildlife. The route winds through forests and mountain valleys where visitors frequently spot bears, elk, deer, bighorn sheep and a variety of bird species.

Bankhead, Alberta’s Forgotten Coal Mining Town
