Beauty in Decay: A photo series featuring Abandoned Decay and my young daughter as a flower among the ruins of an abandoned building.
My third time taking my daughter to this amazing old location in Upstate New York. I’ve been in contact with the landowners for a few years and they are always happy to grant us permission to come back anytime we wish.
The first year we went in 2014 I wasn’t sure what to expect, as expected she was afraid of every noise and would not leave my side for a second. But I ended up with a handful of really nice photos that would end up placing in a photography competition a few years later.
Last year in 2016 we went with a post-apocalyptic/creepy theme, and those photos blew up, going viral all over the place. For this years theme I really wanted to focus on her innocence as she is in a perfect phase between being a little girl and soon to be a teenager. The theme this year was “Beauty in Decay”, allowing my daughter to contrast the decay with her youth, innocence and a really pretty dress!
She was a natural in front of the camera, I told her of the theme and I directed her to be lost, lonely and curious and from there I barely had to direct her.
I hope you like the series:
