On my way to scout and explore some potential new locations, I pass a house that I had seen before, but always passing on my way to do something that was more important at the time.
On this day, there is snow on the ground and I decide to stop at this house and observe, from the outside this house certainly looks derelict, what little I can see through the windows looks empty and unused, but the biggest giveaway is the lack of tire tracks or footprints on the driveway and around the house.
I exit my car and approach the house, ready and willing to strike up a conversation should I meet someone unexpectedly, I round a side of the house and spot something that tells me there is no way someone would be living in this house.
The rest of the details I will spare you here, but as I enter the abandoned house I am immediately greeted by this note on the kitchen table.
I call out many times to be certain I am alone, with a heightened state of alertness I step in deeper and deeper into the house, continuation to call in.
The familiar smell of an abandoned house, the cobwebs getting stuck in my hair and the scurry of raccoons feet running up in the attic.
There is a story to be had here, I don’t yet know what it is – but this house is full of old old items, antiques, furniture, instruments and more. Also lots of empty boxes and full garbage bags.
I have found something special here, so I take my time and I explore and I wonder and I photograph.
An absolutely amazing find in Southern Ontario, this incredible abandoned house has been left to slowly rot after the apparent passing of both residents of the home.
A true to the term Time Capsule House, this home holds more treasures than I could ever try to mention here.
Toys that date back to the 50’s, through the 60’s, 70’s, and all the way to the 80’s and 90’s. A stellar record collection that starts with early jazz and country and continues through the decades stopping somewhere in the mid 80’s.
Stacks upon stacks of old magazines that document an entire history of pop culture through the generations, including what looks like every TV Guide ever printed!
Buried beneath stacks of filled garbage bags, piles of magazines clothes and furniture sits an entire families history and stories, staring with original birth certificates, original black and white wedding photos and a teenage girls bedroom with Platinum Blonde posters still on the walls.

This teenage girls bedroom is the very definition of why we use the term “Time Capsule” to descrive certain houses.
Platinum Blonde, a once popular Canadian New Wave band who formed in Toronto in 1981. Their popularity peaked in the mid 80’s and it was all downhill from there for Platinum Blonde.
There was a time when you couldn’t turn on Canadian radio or Much Music (our version of MTV) without hearing a Platinum Blonde Song or video within minutes.
The inclusion of posters featuring Micheal J Fox as Alex P Keaton on the cover of TV Guide as well as posters of a WHAM era George Micheal and Kirk Cameron from Growing Pains, this room is a true time capsule from the life of a teenage girl growing up in the 80’s.

This room was very hard to photograph, what you can’t see is what is behind me. A couth and two chairs stacked high with stuff, boxes, bags, books etc.
It does seem that at some point someone attempted to clean the place up, there were dozens of garbage bags in the living room full of things.
You can also see the stacks of VHS tapes and magazines, there were magazines all over the place in this house. Old issues of TV Guide and US Weekly and Chatalaine, old Teenie Bopper Magazines, car magazines, hunting magazines – they threw nothing out!
As many of us do, I am piecing together my own story here of what happened and it is probably nothing like the true story of this house.
Much more to come!!

More unique items that were found buried, hidden and scattered all over this abandoned house.
The popular opinion here is that the last resident of them home was a hoarder and at one time someone attempted to clean things up and gave up on their efforts.
On a different note, maybe it’s just me but if you saw the picture I posted of this doll next to a ouija board, don’t you fint that placing the doll in this setting is not nearly as creepy?

The green stamp in the middle of the jar is from a series of stamps featuring King George and was released in 1937.,
This specific stamp is the deep olive green 1/2D version.
The stamp, from what I have learned is not worth any significant value but it is still ineresting to see this old glass jar full of old stamps.
Much more to come this week from this amazing abandoned house that, while difficult to navigate, was full of surprises!

Pop Culture, Antique Toys and Music History
All through this amazing abandoned house I was finding bits of Pop Culture history from the 70’s into the 80’s from old Barbie Dolls, Magazines with ET on the cover from 1982, comic books, board games that are so well preserved they would no doubt fetch a lot of money.
I found a very impressive record collection that started with early Jazz and Country all the way through the 50’s, 60’s right up into the late 80’s.

My fascination with dark and creepy things and with abandoned places very much likely started with this album and the sing/video for Thriller.
As a young boy I can’t tell you how many times I watched that video, listened to this album and obsessed over it.
As I was flipping through the record collection that I found in this old abandoned house I was flooded with memories as soon as I saw this album in the stack.
Opening the album and seeing the photo inside with the tiger, on top of the sketches by Michael Jackson himself on the sleeves, it all came back to me how much I was influenced by this album.
This album introduced me to my lifelong love for music, pop culture and all things creepy!

Escape from the Death Star (1977)
Escape from the Death Star was one of the earliest bits of Star Wars merchandising released by Kenner (October 1977). In this game, the heroes need to escape from the Death Star’s trash compactor and reach the Rebel base on Yavin 4. The board is pretty cool, featuring photos from the movie, and it has a lot of spaces for the tokens. It’s a quick game with a spinning wheel and cards that give the players certain benefits and penalties.
The Basement of this Abandoned House
For some reason I have a bad habit of not checking basements in abandoned houses. I’m not sure why. Not all the time but sometimes I’ll look down the stairs and say “nah there’s nothing down there”
Well I’m glad that on my second visit to this incredible abandoned house that I decided to check it out. There was so much stuff down there but sadly, much like the upstairs most of it is buried under all kinds of stuff.
Here is a look at what I managed to find:
Old televisions found in the dark and damp basement of an abandoned house with everyhting left behind
one of many old comic books that I found in the basement of an old abandoned house. Sadly almost all of these have been damaged by water and time.

You can see many other creepy places like this one in this story by my friends at AllTheRooms at this blog post: “The Nine Creepiest Places Around The World ”
I’m always torn when I see houses like these, I would never steal but a part of me would prefer that someone “save” the treasures than see assholes smash & burn everything.
