1859 Abandoned Farmhouse – The Sunshine Girl Discovery”
A Forgotten Rural Time Capsule With a Story Still Unfolding
Hidden deep in a field at the end of a long dirt driveway stands a farmhouse built in 1859. Today it sits alone, surrounded by farmland and future development, its windows dark and silent. Inside, the home remains almost completely untouched, filled with furniture, dishes, and personal belongings that seem frozen in time. It’s a rare example of a rural Ontario time capsule — and as I explored the house, one discovery changed the story entirely.
The Exploration
I traveled to this secluded farmhouse knowing only two things:
The year 1859 is carved into the exterior brick
The area is currently surrounded by road widening projects and new suburban growth
Other than that… nothing. No names. No recorded history online. Just questions.
Inside the house, I found clues scattered throughout the rooms. Family photos. School papers. Handwritten notes left behind. All signs that a full life once happened here.
The Sunshine Girl Photo on the Wall
Then around the 6:43 mark in the exploration video, I noticed a framed picture on the wall — a Sunshine Girl from November 1993. Her name: Colleen.
While filming, I joked about how funny it would be if we could track her down today — and whether she ever imagined someone would find her Sunshine Girl photo in an abandoned house more than 30 years later.
The Twist No One Saw Coming
I didn’t have to track her down.
She found me.
A friend of hers watched the video… recognized her instantly… and sent her the link.
Within 24 hours, Colleen reached out to me.

Colleen shared a little update about her life since that 1993 Sunshine Girl moment:
59 years old
Flight attendant for 38 years
Married for 36 years
Mother to two children (28 and 30)
