Beauty in Decay 2018 – Levitation Photography
Beauty in Decay 2018 Levitation Photography by Freaktography. Photos from my annual themed photo shoot with my daughter Victoria in an abandoned building in New York State. Floating Photography, or Levitation Photography is a concept in which the photo subject appears to be floating. By no means is this an original idea, this levitation photography concept has been done over and over again by hundreds of other photographers. That said, it’s been something I’ve wanted to try for a long time and my recent photo shoot with my 11 year old daughter Victoria was a perfect opportunity. I searched the internet for some ideas and inspiration that I could use in the building we were shooting in and I found some great ideas for me to try and hopefully add my own creative fingerprint to the concept.
I make a point to visit this building every year, I obtain permission from the family who owns the land and I take my daughter with me once a year where we do a different themed photo shoot with every visit.
I have photographed Victoria in this room at ages 7,9,10 and now 11.
One of the things I have always loved about photographing Victoria is that I hardly every have to direct her, she just always knows how to pose!
Floating Frame/Empty Frame Photography
Then we found an old frame and I decided to have some fun, she has always wanted to know how I did those funny pictures with the frames.
Revisiting Old Photos from 2014
Once we got the floating frame shots, we moved onto the next theme for the day, I had printed and framed some photos that I took of her in this same building in 2014 when she was 7 years old. The idea was to put her in place holding the frames, or looking at the photos in the same scene.
I can’t ever give up the opportunity to shoot her underneath this skylight
Then, as we have for the past few years we stop and pose for a portrait together to close off the day before I treat her to iced cream as a thank you!!!
