In the early summer of 2024, I flew 3,120 miles, or 5,020 kilometers across Canada to visit the largest abandoned ghost town in Canada – Anyox British Columbia.

Anyox, British Columbia is a true ghost town with a rich, hidden history. Once a bustling mining hub in the early 1900s, Anyox was abandoned in 1935 after a devastating fire. Today, it’s a relic of the past, with crumbling buildings and rusted machinery frozen in time.

Getting to Anyox required one cross-country flight from Toronto to Vancouver, followed by a shorter flight from Vancouver to Terrace. From Terrace, we drove several hours through the mountains and logging roads to Kitsault, BC.

Since Anyox is only accessible by boat or seaplane, the final stretch involved a boat trip from nearby locations like Kitsault, BC.

At full peak capacity and population, Anyox had a population of almost 3,000 residents, but today there are only two permanent residents of Anyox, well….2 human residents!

On this trip, I explored everything from the abandoned power plant, the coking plant, the red light district, the steam plant, the cemetery, forests that were once city streets filled with houses, I explored the hospital, the general store, the mines…and the non-human residents.
