Mansion Impossible - Revisiting the Abandoned Peter Grant Mansion with its New Owner

Canada’s largest abandoned mansion—the Peter Grant Mansion in Haileybury, Ontario—is no longer abandoned! In a wild twist, Texas-based Chris Fischer has purchased the iconic abandoned mansion and is launching a massive restoration project called Mansion Impossible.

Turns out, it was videos from myself and RiddimRyder that inspired Chris to take the leap, buy the Peter Grant abandoned mansion, and bring new life to this forgotten Canadian landmark.

Chris invited both Riddim and me to come up to the Peter Grant house for a weekend to kick off his MansionImpossible YouTube series, where he’ll document the entire journey of flipping this massive abandoned property.

To make things even more fun, we brought along our friends Carlo Paolozza and Moe Sargi—because no urbex adventure is complete without good company!

Whether you’ve followed the story of this abandoned mansion in Ontario, or you’re just discovering the legend of Canada’s largest abandoned house, you’re going to want to follow this journey. From abandoned mansion everything left behind to full-on renovation—this is going to be one epic transformation.

What is the Peter Grant Mansion?

The Peter Grant Mansion in Haileybury, Ontario, was envisioned in 2005 by Peter Grant, former president of Grant Forest Products, as a 65,000-square-foot residence featuring amenities like a subterranean boathouse, golf course, and art gallery.

Construction halted during the 2008 financial crisis, leaving the mansion unfinished and abandoned for over 15 years. In 2023, Texas entrepreneur Chris Fischer acquired the property with plans to renovate it, potentially featuring the process in a reality TV show called “Mansion Impossible.”

What is "Mansion Impossible?

”Mansion Impossible” is an upcoming television series that will document the ambitious restoration of Canada’s largest abandoned mansion by the Fischer family, led by Texas-based entrepreneur Chris Fischer. The mansion, located in Haileybury, Ontario, spans 65,000 square feet and has been unoccupied for years.

Chris Fischer purchased this expansive property with the vision of transforming it, and the series aims to capture the challenges and progress of this monumental renovation project.

Peter Grant Mansion Impossible: 2020 - 2025 Comparisons

My first visit to the abandoned Peter Grant Mansion was in May, 2020.  Compared to just one year later when I came back in 2021, the damage didn’t seem so bad.  However, upon my return with the Mansion Impossible crew in March 2025, there was a massive difference

In the photos below, which are direct shot for shot comparisons, the top pics were taken in 2020 and the bottom pics in 2025.
