On August 29th, 1958, Michael Joseph Jackson was born at St Mary’s Mercy Hospital in Gary, Indiana to a family of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was the eighth of Katherine and Joe Jackson’s ten children.
Michael Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. The music videos for ‘Beat It’, ‘Billie Jean’, and ‘Thriller’ are credited with breaking down racial barriers and transforming the medium into an art form and promotional tool.
His follow-up album to Thriller was titled Bad and was released on August 31st, 1987, In the US, Bad debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, selling more than 2.25 million copies in its first week. It reached number one in 24 other countries.
The “Bad” video was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese and depicted urban and racial challenges in the late 1980s.
Shot entirely on location in New York City, with the video’s dance sequence taking place in the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station in Brooklyn, the “Bad” video found Michael moving in a more complex, edgy direction.
In 2014, Rolling Stone ranked “Bad” No. 2 on a list of Michael’s 20 greatest videos.
